Halloweenie...

Saturday, October 31, 2009

Halloween is such a fun "holiday" when you have kids. We had a blast dressing the kids up
(Sydney was a Spooky Spider Witch and Casey was Minnie Mouse) and Trick-or-Treating
with them.
Here are a few pics from our night...

Spooky Witch...

Minnie Mouse...
"Let's Go Choo Choo Treat Mommy!"
They warm my heart.
Next house...
Then a much needed break to check out her loot!
I didn't get any pictures of Sydney Trick-or-Treating mostly because she was
running around like crazy!
Hope everyone else had a GREAT Halloween!

Busy Day...

Friday, October 30, 2009

It all started around 5:30 this morning when I woke up the girls to get them ready for school. Sydney had a story book character parade at school today. They were to pick a book they liked and dress up like a character in that book. She decided to be Splat the Cat - in this book is a black cat that just started his first year of school.

They wanted simple costumes that wouldn't interfere with class later in the day!
So here is Splat...
and of course her tail....MEEEOOOWW!!!
Casey couldn't be left out and luckily I had another set of kitty ears...
So happy for 5:45 in the morning huh?

Then this afternoon Sydney brought home her VERY FIRST report card.
She is doing so great and her report card reflects that!! There was one thing that made me smile quite a bit - in kindergarten they all take this test at the beginning and end of the year to find out where they stand. We were shown samples of the test and were shocked at the difficulty level on some of the exercises. The children are graded with a "still developing" or a "developed". During our Parent/Teacher conference it was explained to us that so early in the year most kindergartners receive a "Still Developing". Well time for me to brag a little - Sydney received a Developed!!! She is off on the right track for the rest of her years in school.
We couldn't be more proud of our little girl.

Carving our Pumpkins...

Thursday, October 29, 2009

Tonight we broke out the carving tools and went to work carving our pumpkins for Halloween.
I always loved doing this as a kid and it is even more exciting now with all the cool patterns that are available. The kids had a great time picking out the designs they wanted and then seemed to disappear while I did all the dirty work - Figures!!!

Sydney was pretending to eat it but it looks more like she got sick...
Casey was really excited to see the "belly" of the pumpkin.
Casey's Pumpkin - Yup you guessed it Elmo...
Sydney decided to honor Mommies obsession with Twilight and went for the Vampire design.
She wanted to have Edward and Bella...
They were so excited to see them in the dark...
This is our walkway to the house.
This year we did some orange lights, homemade ghosts hanging from our tree and then of course our plug-in pumpkin and carved ones.
And my fav decoration right now (probably because I worked my butt off on them).

Desitin...

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

So when we had kids I had this absolute LOVE of the way desitin smelled - weird I know but apparently Casey has developed the same affliction...

I'm not sure if she thought this was lotion but it sure was difficult to get off.
The water kept beading off her skin and bath time was NOT FUN!!!
But then I came to her room at bedtime and this is what I see...
A sweet little girl that smells like butt cream with a monster smile and an
"I Wuv You Momma" makes it all okay!

Zoo Boo!!!

Sunday, October 25, 2009

It has been so hot this year that we had not even considered going to the zoo but today was overcast and in the 70's and it couldn't have been a better visit.  Both kids were so excited to see all the animals and were not disappointed.  The cooler weather must agree with the animals also because we have never seen them so active.  The zoo was all decorated for Halloween.  Some animals had pumpkins in their areas and they gave the kids some candy - which of course they enjoyed. The biggest triumph of the day (other than no screaming or blood) was that this was Casey first real outing in just her big girl panties and there were NO accidents - we are so proud!

Fire Prevention...

Friday, October 9, 2009

This was Fire Prevention week at school for Sydney. Of course this is a favorite event of ours also. Her school was visited by the city FD this week and Sydney was SO heartbroken that her daddy's FD couldn't be there but she did enjoy seeing other fire fighters and got to "brag" that her father is a fire fighter also - which made her the "cool" kid.
This is one of the many projects that they made that was associated and she couldn't wait to show Daniel.

Fire Fighter Sydney Cobb says "Stop drop and roll so you can get the fire off."

We need it but...

Sunday, October 4, 2009

Rain in south Texas can be a dangerous thing!!
This is what it NORMALLY looks like when we look out our back door...

After a few hours of HEAVY rain this is what we woke to this morning...
This is scary to us because living around here we know that a few more hours of rain like we had and this COULD be knocking on our back door. Actually there were homes in our neighborhood that did sustain some flood damage during this storm.
Daniel left for work and since it was dark and he didn't know about this "river" which had made its way up over the road behind our home - he drove right into it!!! He said he could feel his truck (which is pretty tall) shifting in the water and then noticed that the water was all the way up to the doors! Of course he got yelled at by me.
And then a few hours later it was back to normal - Crazy Huh?
