We need it but...

Rain in south Texas can be a dangerous thing!!
This is what it NORMALLY looks like when we look out our back door...

After a few hours of HEAVY rain this is what we woke to this morning...
This is scary to us because living around here we know that a few more hours of rain like we had and this COULD be knocking on our back door. Actually there were homes in our neighborhood that did sustain some flood damage during this storm.
Daniel left for work and since it was dark and he didn't know about this "river" which had made its way up over the road behind our home - he drove right into it!!! He said he could feel his truck (which is pretty tall) shifting in the water and then noticed that the water was all the way up to the doors! Of course he got yelled at by me.
And then a few hours later it was back to normal - Crazy Huh?

Big Girl Bed...

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Remember a year ago this is what Casey's room looked like
Then a few months later we had to move onto the toddler bed

This past week we made ANOTHER change!  Casey is now a proud owner of a real "Big Girl" bed.  The toddler bed just wasn't big enough anymore and we were tired of checking on her and half her body hanging off the edge.   So a little rearranging happened and this is what she got...
So Happy!

My Favorite Room...

Sunday, August 9, 2009

Our bedroom was put on the back burner when we moved in because nobody went in there other than us?  Well we finally got to it this week.  We found the perfect bedding (thanks to Dawn scouring the JcPenney catalog for me) and it is done and we are in love!!
Before the room was just bland with no "theme", curtains and it felt cramped.
So to start we rearranged the room and switched the TV dresser to the bed wall and put the bed on the TV wall.  For some reason it opened the room up tremendously.
This is in the doorway looking in...
We painted the new bed wall and the wall into the bathroom a deep green which coordinates perfectly with the bedding.

We moved the chaise lounge from the far corner to right outside the bathroom door and it actually feels like a functional piece of furniture now. I already have my new favorite place to read.
There are still a few things to do in there.  I am going to use the green paint we have on the wall and some brown to paint "abstract art" on some stretched canvas that I bought at Hobby Lobby.  That way we have "art" that is a perfect match to our room.  I am also in the process of ordering some photos of the girls in black and white to blow up , frame and then hang on either side of the bathroom door.  Plus I need to find matching throw pillows that don't cost $40 a pillow - UGH!!!  It really never stops...

Are we there yet??

You know the place that means we can relax and enjoy this house rather than working in it to constantly get it where we want it...
Earlier this week we both took time off that was supposed to be for a trip to the beach but after evaluating how many home projects we had we decided to stay home and finish those up.  I'm so glad we made this choice!
First the TV downstairs was starting to go out (everyone looked like Smurfs) and we knew that having the part that was bad replaced and the labor cost would be almost as much as buying a new one so of course we opted for the new one - HEHEHE!
Here is a before and after...

This TV was a beast (55 inches and what felt like 200lbs) and we had already had to replace the lamp in it...  Not worth the cost of upkeep...
This is the sleek new addition to our home.
It weighs a whopping 52lbs and is 52 inches wide.  Daniel put it on a mount so that we can avoid little fingerprints.
We found the table in the weirdest furntiure store in the mall. It was all Oriental stuff with dragons and geisha's on it and then this.  Anyway I fell in love because now I have a place to put movies and all our cords are hidden.  Now If I could just talk Daniel into a Blu Ray DVD player...Hmmmm.

Master closet...

Friday, June 26, 2009

To say that the master closet was what sold us on this house would be a total lie - We hated it.  It always looked crowded and there was SO much wasted space.  We recently decided to have a professional come look at it and he wowed us with a great design and we did it.  My newest love is my custom closet!!
I totally forgot to take before pictures but just picture a mess with shoes everywhere and very little organization and you'll get it!
Looking into the closet.
I love the drawers and shelving it lets us hide clothing and also get the shoes up off the floor..
To the right inside the closet.
My side...
More of my side...
My shoe rack...
I didn't realize how few shoes I have until I couldn't fill half of this!!
Daniel's side...
Needless to say I am so happy with the new space that was created - now I need to go shopping to fill it!!
Oh and this is what happens when you leave a 2 yr old in the bathroom for 2 minutes so you can take pictures of your new glorious closet...
Yes that is mascara!  What can you do?

More kitchen updates...

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

After the paint we added to the kitchen we thought there was only one thing missing... Knobs on our cabinets.  They looked naked and we had been trying to find them decoration since we moved in but could never find the one that was just right.  We finally found them!!!  I think that we made the right choice and NOW the kitchen feels complete or at least it does until I find curtains for the windows - hahahaha!

Before -
And the final look...

Wild Kingdom..

Monday, June 22, 2009

I think those of you that know me would agree that when it comes to any other animal besides dogs I think they are MUCH better at a distance - you know like behind plate glass at the ZOO!!
Since moving into this house we have had "Wild Animal" sightings like crazy.
We have a neighborhood owl that hangs out in the backyard, there are two VERY persistent barn swallows that try to nest in our entryway, we have had a snake in our front planter, we have heard coyotes in the field directly behind our house, we have had to deal with field mice a few times, rabbits eat things in my front planter, Rosco really ticked off a Raccoon one evening in the backyard (luckily he stayed perched on the rockwall and Rosco was easily swayed into the house with a pack of hotdogs) and I had to STOP mid-stride during a run one morning to let a deer cross in front of me - he wasn't going to slow down!
Anyway this morning I was running late and had forgotten my lifeline (aka - my phone) so I had to come home after dropping off the kids at daycare.  As I got out of the car I noticed something in the yard...
From this distance it seems to be a rock but then it moved...

Holy Crap there was a big ole' turtle in my front yard... I knew Sydney was going to be heartbroken to not see him so I ran inside and grabbed my phone (Of course) and the camera...

He wasn't to excited to see me and as soon as I walked away he was on the move again!!!
After getting home and telling Sydney about the turtle she was in fact devastated to not see him and we walked our whole yard just in case but in 100 degree weather I knew he was nowhere to be found!  She settled for the pictures and has told everyone she has seen about the turtle.
What's next at the Cobb Zoo??

What an improvement...

Saturday, June 20, 2009

Last year we started painting our home to warm it up and make it feel like home.  We picked very rich colors and loved them all except ONE!!!!

This is the breakfast nook (in the background) when we moved in...
Other side of the kitchen...
Then we did THIS... AAAHHHH!
and THIS...  In our defense when we brought home the color sample it looked more brownish orange and it just didn't turn out that way!
So we finally stopped pouting and went and bought our SAFE color Summer Pudding (or red) and repainted the kitchen this past week!  I couldn't be happier with how it turned out!!!
I love it and now I can finally finish decorating the rest of this area!!
Oh yeah - we liked it so much we decided that the dining room niche could use a little something and this is what it got!!
Two more rooms done with painting - Check, Check!!

My favorite tree...

Thursday, June 18, 2009

When we moved into this house there was a spot in our front planter that I knew would only be complete with a Crape Myrtle tree in it - so that is exactly what we put there.

This year it is just going CRAZY with flowers and is so stunning to see as you walk up to the door!  Luckily it is pretty tolerant to the HEAT because we live on the sun!!
